In August 2025, the chart of 7-seater sales in the MPV and SUV segment showed no clear trend for or against India. The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga continued as the leader with 18,445 units sold. Then came the Mahindra Scorpio (9,840 units) and the Toyota Innova (9,304 units).
The Mahindra Bolero (+25%) and the Kia Carens (+16%) showed positive upticks, whereas the XUV700 saw a significant drop of 45%. The popular and affordable Renault Triber (+24%) was also in the up-there list, but the Tata Safari lost one. There is clearly a bifurcation in this space with good family friendly vehicles, inexpensive alternatives to family, and higher dollar SUVs, which are now available in affordable alternatives.
The 7-seater vehicle is still the most sensible option for many Indian families and fleet customers, and the August 2025 sales chart shows a few surprises, a few same old with regard to where the customer spent their money, and some changing preferences among buyers. When it comes to more family-friendly vehicles, from the frequently relied-upon Maruti Suzuki Ertiga to the more rugged Mahindra Scorpio and the more aspirational Toyota Innova, the MPV and SUV sections of the Indian market are evolving rapidly.

Maruti Suzuki Ertiga – Still the People’s Choice
With 18,445 units sold, the Ertiga still remains the top selling 7-seater in the Indian market. It is a tragedy that it is down only 1% on units sold from last year, but as the sales units show, it is clear to see why this vehicle continues to be loved by families and cab operators.
